Helen Mac Mahon | April 2014

My work is currently concerned with the phenomena of light, movement, perception and space. The work observes and reveals the ecosystem that exists in the interplay of people, their surroundings and these intangible elements. Changes that occur in any one of these components have a perceptible impact on the other. Rarely static, they exist in a perpetual state of transformation.

My investigations are experimental in nature and this exploratory process is as important as the finished piece. Often the unpredictability of the techniques is the key to discovery. I use commonplace materials, maintaining the integrity of the original objects while the viewer is allowed to experience them in a new and often surprising way. The curiosity of the viewer is encouraged, as their active participation allows the revelation of the beauty in the natural laws the work explores.
