Learning to Fly
Myra Jago | Curated by Jennette Donnelly,
We must fly and we must fall
Our earth has surrounded us with constant, reliable truths. From the rising and setting of the sun to the ebb and flow of the tide, our world is quietly and beautifully keeping time. Gravity is within us, radiating from our very core and grounding us. Unwavering and invisible, we rely on this force completely and unconsciously.
Figuratively speaking, from conception, we learn to fly and we learn to fall. The radiant pull of the unknown turns us all into honorary Icarus devotees as we strive to stretch our wings and dive forth into unchartered territories. With the rising of the sun anxiety builds and stomach knots await the outcome. Success and failure run hand in hand as life’s lessons prove to rise and fall akin to the tide. Emotional scarring and bruising fade as our wings grow stronger and begin to direct us with purpose. Our souls set alight with fiery power and with long feathered strokes we are pulled to our truer purpose. The setting of the sun brings a quieting of our wings as wisdom teaches us not to fly too close to the sun.
Only the truth remains, we must fly and we must fall.
Ignorance is the curse of God; knowledge is the wing wherewith we fly to heaven.
William Shakespeare
